Gel Manicures in London — Gel Nails That Actually Last

A gel manicure should last three to four weeks without lifting, chipping or peeling at the edges. Most do not, and it is almost always down to preparation rather than the polish. At Selfish, every gel manicure begins with dry e-file cuticle work and a rubber base gel, which is why our clients come back on a four-week cycle rather than a ten-day one.

What is included in a gel manicure

Dry e-file cuticle work

No soaking, no nippers, no flooded cuticles. The nail plate is cleaned with an e-file so gel bonds directly to the surface it should bond to.

Rubber base gel

A thicker, self-levelling base that adds a little flexibility and evens out ridges. It is the reason colour sits smooth and the free edge does not chip.

Over 600 colours

One of the largest colour walls in east London, all vegan. Nudes, sheers, chromes, deep autumn shades and seasonal collections are in the same room, so you can decide when you sit down.

Hybrid polish: a lighter alternative

If you want something gentler than hard gel but longer-lasting than regular polish, we also offer Manucurist Paris hybrid manicures from £45. Hybrid gives around two weeks of wear and removes without an e-file — a good option between sets or before a holiday.

Making a gel manicure last four weeks

Book removal with us rather than picking it off. Wear gloves for cleaning. Book your next appointment before the regrowth line reaches the middle of the nail. And oil the cuticle daily — flexible skin at the base is what prevents lifting.

If your nails still break before they grow, the answer is usually a builder gel rather than a different colour.

Gel manicure FAQs

How long does a gel manicure last?

Three to four weeks for most clients. Very short nails and fast growth can shorten that.

Can you remove gel applied at another salon?

Yes. Removal only is £23, or £10 when booked with another treatment on the same visit.

Should I choose gel or BIAB?

Choose gel if your natural nails are already strong and you just want colour. Choose BIAB if they bend, peel or break before they grow.

Do you offer a gel removal kit for home?

Yes. Our Gel Polish Removal Kit is £25 and includes clips, a pusher, a file, a buffing block, acetone, cotton and instructions.
